Eydhafushi is the capital of Baa Atoll, which means this beach sits inside the Maldives' first UNESCO Biosphere Reserve — designated in 2011 and covering seventy-five islands, thirteen of them inhabited.
That is the reason to stay here rather than at Maafushi. Hanifaru, where manta rays and whale sharks aggregate on the south-west monsoon, is in this atoll, and an island base puts a reader inside it without a resort transfer.
The beach itself is an inhabited-island beach: real, used, with food and toilets mapped at it, and none of the emptiness of the resort islands a few kilometres away.

Access and parking
Domestic flight to Dharavandhoo and a boat, or the public ferry from Malé. Hanifaru is a paid permit and is booked through the protected-areas register, not through a guesthouse.
