Matira occupies the southern point of Bora Bora's main island and is the only public beach on it. The sand runs round the point on both sides, so there is always a side out of the wind.
The water is lagoon: shallow, flat and warm, wadeable a very long way out towards the reef. This is the thing Bora Bora sells from its overwater bungalows, and Matira is where it costs nothing.

On the circle-island road at the southern point, with parking areas mapped though none records a charge. Food and rentals are on the beach. Public throughout, which on this island is the exception.
