Balangan is a longer, wider beach than its neighbours on the Bukit, backed by a low cliff with warungs along the top of it. The sand is coarser and more golden than the coral-white further south.
The reef sits close in, so how you get into the water depends on the tide more than it does anywhere else in this directory — at low water the shelf is exposed and the entry is over rock. The wave is a left off that reef and is a step gentler than Padang Padang, which is why the surf schools are here.
