Balangan is a longer, wider beach than its neighbours on the Bukit, backed by a low cliff with warungs along the top of it. The sand is coarser and more golden than the coral-white further south.

The reef sits close in, so how you get into the water depends on the tide more than it does anywhere else in this directory — at low water the shelf is exposed and the entry is over rock. The wave is a left off that reef and is a step gentler than Padang Padang, which is why the surf schools are here.

Access and parking

Paid parking. Road to the clifftop, then steps down. The survey found the nearest car park tagged as paid. Tide decides whether the water is swimmable, so check it before committing to the walk down.
